The main reason you are folding here is because when this type of player check/raises you, your outs probably aren't clean even if you had odds to call.
Often a check/raise here will mean 2 pair or better and even when it doesn't you sometimes will be reverse dominated. A check/raise turn bluff from this type of player is not something you need to be worrying about at 5/10 unless you've seen him do it before.

1.2 isn't that passive for a 53 vpip player. That said, to the OP: if I'm worried about a raise from a worse hand I would usually check behind on the turn and call a river bet. Otherwise I would bet/fold. Only against super laggy/maniac types would I bet then call down. I'd never take your line.
