Re: The government will NOT save you
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Translation: THIS government admits it is incapable of helping you. [/ QUOTE ] FYP. [/ QUOTE ] How about the 10K+ people who died of the heat during a fairly recent summer heat wave in France (was it last year?) Government didn't save them over there either. Methinks government just isn't all that great at saving people during major crises. |

My opinion on this whole mess is that the government could have helped but it choose not to.

The government are much better at shooting people than saving them, and people basically will do the best they can in spite of government and not because of them. Mack |

Later that day, Pres. goes to Arizona
[ QUOTE ]
Bush was in El Mirage to promote a new Medicare prescription drug benefit that becomes available in January, but he said he knew the crowd would want him to address illegal immigration - a comment that elicited a groan from those gathered in a community building at a mobile home park here. Bush said he spoke to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff yesterday about the issue. "I said, 'Are you working with the governor?' You bet we are," Bush said. "That's the most effective way to do things: to work with the state and local authorities." [/ QUOTE ] Then there was always time for this photo op: |

Re: The government will NOT save you
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Don't you think so many storms have been overhyped, the people probably just thought they were safe? [/ QUOTE ] Possibly, for some of them. Many had no way to leave. It doesn't matter *why* they stayed, the fact is the government agencies couldn't perform the tasks they were designed to do when it counted. [/ QUOTE ] But should the bulk of the blame be leveled at FEMA and the US governement? I think the LOCAL governements should be more disgraced! Didn't it ever dawn on them that an event such as this was possible when you have population living on the Gulf coast BELOW sea level? All I hear are the governor and mayor leveling blame at the Feds. It's THEIR state and city yet they seemingly had no emergency plans in place for such an event. They sent people to shelters and then abandoned them! Their own law enforcement is turning in their badges. C'mom! If there's a disgrace it comes from the people of the State and New Orleans proper, NOT the Federal governement (even though I do think they were not quick enough in their response). |

My opinion on this whole mess is that the government could have helped but it choose not to. [/ QUOTE ] Methinks you need to focus on being more informed before you decide to stand on really, really idiotic opinions. Government chose not to help...which is why there's all kinds of shelters open, choppers bringingin supplies, buses attempting to take peopleout of New Orleans that either couldn't leave or were too stupid to...yep, no help whatsoever. |

The point is there is an entire bureaucracy dedicated to handling these types of situations, and they've show just how incompetent they are. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agree - local agencies should be more disgraced. The response plan for the mayor and governor was to get on TV, say "this is the big one, get the hell out" and then to get on TV and cry about no help coming. |
