Very few passive players will lay down any pair here for 1 bet on the river.

Check folding is weak here.

I would have check/called both the flop and the turn, maybe I am weak. If you want to get him to fold, checkraise the flop and take it from there.

This is definitely a check/call or check/fold.

[/ QUOTE ]
Check/call is completely devoid of any merit. If you want to invest a bet on the river, bet out instead. You will often fold a low pair and win on a bluff. The only decision on this River is whether to bet out or not. Check/calling is simply inferior to bet/folding and is therefore not even worthy of consideration.

check calling is very correct against the right opponent.

Isn't JT a reasonable holding for villain? Since it's second pair and hero bet with a queen on board, villain could be calling down. Why else would he be in the hand and bet the river? Hero hasn't improved, so I favor getting away from this as cheaply as possible. Check/fold. Next hand please.

This is completely untrue. What types of hands do you think you are folding with a bet? I'd wager 95+% of the hands that fold here you beat anyway, missed draws and unpaired cards. You really think someone that calls to the river with a 6 is folding for one more bet?

What types of hands bet if you check? Any missed draw, ace high may take a shot at you, depending on the player.

Whether you check/call or check/fold here is player dependent, but betting here is a clear mistake most of the time.

jrz1972 also said above it is read dependant. It does look like a real good spot for a tricky opp to bluff since the ATs probably has less than 12% equity and should otherwise fold.

Hmm, I gave a long thought to this yesterday and I start
to see now why check/calling > bet/fold in this case and how
I've been playing some of these situations wrongly.

So for this specific example I've now changed my mind to

check/fold > check/call > bet/fold

I have another question now though,
Knowing that opponent is passive as in this case (0.4!) would it have been better to check/call the turn instead of continuing the semibluff.

If you check the turn and opponent checks behind you get a free card and can take the check/call or bet/fold route on the river since he showed no strength on the turn.

If you check and he bets you can safely fold the river UI.

Or is betting out the turn still correct?
