donk or genius?
Live 2/4. Table is loose-passive. I think at this point they were sort of afraid of me, as i'd taken down a few nice pots.
Hero is SB with 66. 4 limpers, Hero completes, BB checks. Flop (6 small bets): T 3 2 rainbow Hero checks, checks around to LP who bets, cranky old weak-tightie in CO calls, Hero raises, a couple people call. Turn (7 big bets): T Hero bets, everyone calls. River (11 big bets): 3 Hero checks, everyone checks. (I added a poll just for fun, and so i can claim that i am "nn% donk, according to 2+2 micro forum!", but i'd appreciate actual commentary even more.) |

Re: donk or genius?
The weak-tightie and everyone else were hoping to pair one of their overcards to the T.
No one had a T or 3, thats why they were all calling. LP was probably hoping he could scare everyone else into folding when he bet on the flop (or else he was hoping to buy a free card). Hero probably has the best hand, but there is no point in his betting the river. Thats because he is very unlikely to be called by someone with a worse hand. |

Overcards would call at that level I believe
Could be wrong though |

He was mostly tight preflop (at least, relative to the rest of the table). Postflop he was extremely passive and frequently went to the river and mucked. He was also stuck bad. Preflop and postflop, he was cranky (i once watched him rake a huge kill pot, say to the dealer, "i'll split it with you" and toss her 50 cents). |

Re: donk or genius?
I would like the check raise a lot more if you didn't have the CO coming along. But at 2/4 live I think it's ok.

Re: donk or genius?
On such a ragged board, I like to just go ahead and bet out on this flop. Often times, it will either get checked around or the person betting will be betting a Ten.

Re: donk or genius?
As of this writing, i'm only 79% donk. Sweet.
Upon further review, i don't think my line was consistent, but here's what i was thinking: I checked the flop to see what would happen, but planned on folding. But then the bet didn't come until late, so i threw out a check-raise to face the field with 2 bets cold. Again, these players were very passive and had been folding to me. I also figured to have the best hand sometimes. When so many people called, i was planning on giving up, but then the top card paired. I fired again, figuring that a T would surely raise now and i would fold. But then there was no raise, so i guessed my hand was best. When the river double-paired the board, i became nervous about being beaten by a 3 (a hand that would definitely call at this table, but probably not raise at any point). I didn't think i had anything to gain by betting again, as worse hands (busted draws) would fold, and a 3 or a T would certainly not fold and would probably raise (and i can't really call a raise here). I might get a call from A-high, but i just wanted to go to showdown. At least one person has advocated leading the flop. What do i do when everyone (or almost everyone) calls? I don't think i can protect my hand by betting out. What's my plan for the turn, then? Anyway, it was kind of a fun hand, but i wanted to get a sense of how badly i screwed it up. MHWG, btw, which may explain why i'm so enamored with it . |
