In the No-Limit world not much thought is going on in this game by most players -- it is PUSH or FOLD poker --- the thuoght process is not there today

[/ QUOTE ]

You are obviously talking about low limit, low capped buyin NL games.

In "real" NL games, there are long periods of slow action with a raise and folds or raise and rerasie and folds. But from time to time, there are some big hands. And the higher you move up in limit and the deeper the stacks, the more action on every hand, with fewer folds and more hands seeing the flop, turn and even the river.

If you really think there is no skill/thought involved, that it is just push or fold, go sit the 10/20 NL at the Wynn or the Bell sometime and let us know how the pushes and folds go. LMAO!

For some reason, I can't consistently make money in limit, but I can in no limit. In limit, too many people see the river too cheaply (can't afford higher limits than $4/$8). In no limit, you can make them pay to see the flop/turn/river (except yesterday, playing $1/$2 NL, when someone called my $10 pre-flop raise with 92o to crack my KK). Ended up going home up $280.

Going to give Commerce a shot in about 5 weeks. Any suggestions?

I am a born-again limit player -- I find it more fun and more consistently profitable. Suck outs on the river happen -- but when you play well, you can win a ton of money when you "properly" suck out another player.

Suggestion -- Read Miller's SSHE.

Grew up playing PL prial and draw so Im a big bet kind of player. Limit forms of poker online make me want to vomit, but live most of the time limit is a lot more fun. You can splash around and theres a lot more action usually.

FWIW the smaller NL games in most casinos play like limit anyways cuz of the capped buy ins, so it doesnt make that much of a difference I dont think. 1-2 NL shallow as hell usually has crazy action, but the rake is steep.

No limit has current "fad" appeal. When the dust settles, folks will still be playing pot limit and limt.

I mainly play limit in live games now, for all of the reasons previously cited. But in terms of a rush, there's nothing like being all-in with your buy-in on the line, waiting to see if a fish will suckout on you. I'd rather not have that kind of excitement affecting my bankroll. But that said, it's awesome to double up on a hand!

that ev post is wrong i believe...since if you played EVERY hand in NL it would cost you far more and you would still only hit the flop as often as you do in limit...

Limit is by far the better game in regards to seeing more hands, being able to make your edge hold up, and in the sense that the blinds and betting have some sensible relationship...
It is too easy to lose everything with AA in NL when some retard calls your 15 (in the ubiquitous 1/2 game) with 9T off and hits a straight or some other nightmare that we have all seen...yes this happens in limit (at lesser frequency the higer you go) but it won't cost you your entire buy in...

This assumes that you play well post-flop.

It's also a slight exaggeration, at least for most people.

For limit, I see about 18-20% of the flops.
For NL, I kick it up to about 40-50%.

This of course also depends on how aggressive the game is.

implied odds baby! i played a small buyin homegame against a bunch of horrid players on friday night and i didnt fold a single hand for 5 hours and the entire table ran out of money. although i would be even better at limit in terms of relative skill, i couldnt have won all their money so quickly and easily.

that being said, ive played both nl and limit profitably at different times, i enjoy limit more simply because i can play more aggressively and not have to worry about getting stacked every hand.

Under the assumption you have an edge, it's easier to make a sustainable income or living from Limit.

Completely backwards.
