Yep, you did misplay it. You could have gotten him off the hand (perhaps) by pushing all-in on the flop against a possible draw or middle pair. The $500 bet would have told me that you were ahead against a TPWK or a draw. True, you would have lost if called, but at least you would have had your money in with the best hand, instead of the worst on the river. And I disagree with the "pot committed" on the river. You still had a few blinds to work your way back, and you easily could have been losing to the straight draw or two-pair.

I think you should of re-raised on the flop to find out where you stand in the hand. By calling the hand down, you have no idea where you are at.
He had second pair and no real draws on the flop. You made a raise before the flop, so a re-raise on the flop would of let him know that you probably have top pair, and he should probably fold. Aggression wins, remember that. Don't let somebody draw out on you because you're afraid to bet/re-raise. |
