Is card-dead a good excuse?

I've played in some NLHE tourneys where I rarely see a hand better than J8o. Is this a good excuse for losing, or should I be "good enough" to win without the good cards?

Happens to me all of the time and I still make the top 25% most of the time. Pitty they only pay top 10-15% - sigh.

Try to find an excuse to win instead.

It's very very hard to win a tournament without making some hands along the way.

Try to keep alive without cards by stealing. This keeps you in the hunt for long enough to get lucky and find a hand, or at least that's the idea... You'll also win some pots when you steal-raise with your J8 and are called. But, you are going to have to show down some winners to get the whole way, of course, so if every hand is rubbish and every flop misses you, you're excused!
