The main thing keeping me from moving up?

Sample size saying that I'm actually beating the limit I'm at.

Tolerance of $2,000 swings.

I don't think I'm going anywhere for a while.

Losing a lot of money in a short amount of time is scary. The first time I lost $100 at poker I thought I was some kind of gambling addict destined to die miserably in debt.

I thought that was the destiny for everyone on this forum?

My major weakness is my inability to tell what my major weaknesses are. I need a coach.

Current bankroll.

While I have no delusions about being a great player or having the skill to crush high limit poker, I am utterly confident in my ability to win at medium stakes poker. I just can't handle the mid-stakes right now, financially.

BTW: I also have a pride thing. I'm afraid to read any of the "Zen" books, though, as based on past history I will probably take too much pride in my newfound lack of pride if I do. (read it again, it'll make sense).

I have the exact same problem with live play, but it isn't so much an embarassment of my play thing as it is a wishing they would all die slowly at the bloodied hands of PokerBob while I played a snare drum in the corner buck naked thing. I am reading that same book you mentioned. I also stopped playing live.

I play snare drum.

Ditto. I love having a good couple of weeks and rewarding myself with stuff.

I just bought new golf clubs. New irons, to be exact. If I didn't do stuff like that all the time I might be playing two levels higher. Gotta get control of that.

I don't pay enough attention to my opponents. I don't read hands very well. I have trouble dealing with aggression. I play too weak tight. I haven't felt much like playing for a while. I'm getting worse at dealing with lean (we are calling it lean these days, aren't we? I feel even more uncool than usual all of a sudden). And needing to keep earning if I want to keep eating.

Life has thrown me a few curveballs re. moving up... but I've been rolled for the next level for months and will start to play higher again once I manage to get back to playing a reasonable schedule.

I listen to an ipod when I play live. It creates a certain disconnect from the other players at the table. It's almost like they aren't there.

I hate you people. :P

i could care less if someone listens to music while they play, but it is to their own detriment. live, i play almost exclusively no limit/pot limit. there is much one can miss when they cannot hear.

example: in a live $2/5 n/l game recently, a pretty tight, observant player was dealt AA twice during the session. both times, he feigned as if he did not realise it was his turn to act. he actually said the words, "oh, is it on me?". wearing an i-pod would make you miss that tell.

cheers!

Not laying down to aggressive raisers when I should.

For example if I layed down to a raiser before, I think people are exploiting me and trying again. They are generally not.
