River Decision with 3rd nuts
$5-10 limit, game is super loose, and pretty wild. I post the BB of $5, and am dealt 3s 6s Qc Ks.
6 people limp including the SB. Flop is Kc 2c Qs SB checks, I check, UTG (very loose, and wild) bets, 4 calls to me, I call. Turn is 8s SB checks, I check, UTG bets, 4 calls to me, I call. River is Js for final board of Kc 2c Qs 8s Js. I have the King high flush, no low is possible. SB checks, whats my action? |

Re: River Decision with 3rd nuts
Dan - I would have bet the flop myself. Then I would have bet the turn.
Although the king high flush is not the nuts, it is favored to win here. And anyone with a lower flush will probably pay you off. You even might get paid off by someone with a straight or set. I'd largely discount the straight flush. About one time in twenty an opponent in a nine handed game will have been dealt cards that will make the straight flush, but there's no guarantee that opponent will still be involved in the hand. The main danger is from an opponent with the ace-high flush. Between the two of them, the straight flush and the ace high flush, your king high flush is still slightly more than a two to one favorite here. So the question is, do you want to go for a check-raise, or do you want to bet your hand more directly? I favor betting directly and then calling a possible raise. Just my opinion. Buzz |
