I'm sb I hold K3o, 3 limpers I complete and BB checks.
Flop is KQ7 rainbow, its checked to button who bets, I check raise, folded back to button who calls. Turn is 2, completing rainbow, I bet, Button calls. River is 5, I bet, button raises. Call or fold? |

A read on the button would be helpful...but you can probably fold.
Generally, I think checking the river may be better in this situation. You give him a chance to bluff and bet a busted draw (i.e. JT), and you may get him to give you a free showdown if he holds a better hand, something like KT/K9. |

I am more convinced than ever that, if there's a hand to fold for one chip in the small blinds, it's unsuited ace-rag.
Anyway, on the river, you've been betting all the way and now an apparent blank comes and he raises. It's virtually impossible that one pair is good. |

I prefer betting the flop.

I think Ax and Kx are OK to play for a chip, but you only continue the hand if you flop two pair.

Is the button really bad? Would he limp any 2 suited? If not, I can't see how the 5 could have helped him. In light of this, I conclude that he's either bluffing a missed straight draw or he had me beat the whole time and slowplayed a monster. I call.
Good luck. Eric |

[/ QUOTE ] I thought the same thing initially, but had a hard time figuring out why. After further thought, I could only conclude that a call was best. More to the point, what hand do you put him on? I find it hard to fold a hand when I can't put him on a hand that just caught up and there are obvious missed straight draws around. What kind of a player bluff raises the river? Will he only do it when the river is a scare card? Are you really ready to give him credit for a slowplayed monster? For 55? Then what? -Eric |

what about sklansky's advice in thfap, which recommends checking and calling with aces or kings and a bad kicker?
no good here? it seems much of the advice in this book (such as this) is not followed by some of the good players in this forum. is sklansky outdated by the high stakes internet world? perhaps i will start a thread... |
