Default doctor\'s visit cost?

if you have no insurance, how much does it cost to go to a doctor for a check up?

how about for a medical problem that isn't life threatening and probably won't need a lot of tests?

I can't speak generally, but my checkup (if I had not had insurance) would have been $200 plus another $150 for the blood work.

Depends a heck of a lot on the doctor and hospital. But many charge flat fee minimums per patient even if they spend no more than five minutes with you(and it's hard to get them to do that much). You might be looking at a couple hundred just for showing up. A check-up sounds like you want blood work, which will mean lab tests. I've had some lab tests cost $25, and some cost much more.

My mom just went in for gall bladder surgery. She ended up having her stint leak so bile was getting into her stomach. Since she didn't do anything about it for 5 days she ended up dehydrated and had to go on dialysis 24/7. Two weeks in ICU and one week in a normal bed and the bill was only $300K.

Here in Vegas, my doc charges $80 to walk in the door. For that I get looked at, and I he'll give me some samples if I need a prescription. (Provided he has some.)

He charges for tests, but nowhere near what he will charge an insurance company.

But I'm an easy patient. I ask intelligent questions, and don't waste his time. (and pay at time of service)

there is most likely a walk in clinic somewhere near where you live, that's your best bet if you want something looked at cheap

if you don't mind hanging out with some questionable characters there is also probably a free clinic somewhere near where you live (especially if there is a med school near by),

probably be way more money, they are specialists after all, plus it might take you months to get in and see one, especially without a referral from a PCP

depending on what you have going on there's some good OTC stuff for skin issues

i suppose this is bad advice as a pseudo-member of the medical establishment(i'm a 3rd year med student), but google a description of what you have and see what it says
