Default A question about casino dealers

OK, played my first live action the other night at the Trop in AC.

A) Dealers seemed to be begging for tips - We don't get paid. I don't believe them.

B) Is it standard to tip EVERY time you win a hand?

Ive never seen a deal beg for tips, sometimes they might look at you if u dont or the other players might. It is kinda standard to tip, but if your playing 1-2 to 3-6 then sometimes the pot isnt big enough to warrant a tip. So use your best judgement

>> Dealers seemed to be begging for tips - We don't get paid. I don't believe them.<<

Dealers are paid quite handsomely for the work they do, such as it is. However, if they are exceptionally friendly, courteous, competent, and efficient, there is nothing wrong with flipping them an extra buck every now and then.

>>Is it standard to tip EVERY time you win a hand?<<

This is a gross misconception, but one that seems to be vigorously promoted by a vocal few who are self-interested.

Feel free to use your hard won money to tip for excellent service as *you* see fit, and have no compunction or remorse about resisting whatever social pressure might be applied.

And whatever you do decide to tip, remember tipping is always -EV.

Monday and yet another tipping thread. It's like clockwork around here for this crap.

Search is your friend, or try the B&M Noob thread at the top of this forum. And btw, dealers get about minimum wage + tips.

A. They must get paid. I don't think they must be paid minimum wage as they do qualify for tip income. I can't imagine that they get paid NOTHING.

B. I always tip $1 every time I win a hand. The dealers usually appreciate it. The one time they didn't was at the Mandalay Bay. I won a high hand jackpot for something like $230. I tipped the dealer $5 and he was visibly pissed.

Another player told me that it is customary to tip 10$ when you win a jackpot so I threw him another $20. He gave me such a condescending 'thanks' that I tried to win another hand off of him so I could not tip him.

Default Proposal for new forum charter

Welcome to the Two Plus Two Tipping Forum! Threads on other topics about brick-and-mortar poker are also generally tolerated, as long as they don't threaten to become numerous and thus make it harder to follow the hour's latest tipping flame-bait and occasional discussion.
