This is another case of a floorman trying to apply rules he doesn't understand. The best hand gets should get the money. Anyone that wants to award the pot to other than the best hand is most likelyl new to poker and does not have a solid understanding of the rules.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you saying the rule at your casino is that a hand with one card on the floor is live?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, did he gain an advantage from only having one card?

edit to add after reading next post:
[ QUOTE ]
but the question here is "What is the house rule"?

[/ QUOTE ]

The house rule is the casino will rule in the interest of fairness even if this means ignoring the letter of the rule to apply the spirit of the rule. There is normally an explanatoin of this in the introduction to the rules.

The best hand always gets the money. Since the guy with the queen had only one live card, he has no hand. This is the standard ruling at any casino anywhere on planet Earth. Anyone who thinks that someone with a card on the floor gets the pot doesnt understand poker.

That pot belonged to the guy with the Queen.
"belonged"? Perhaps in a moral or ethical sense, but the question here is "What is the house rule"? I may or may not like the Rule, but as long as it is consistenly applied, I will abide by it. And in most card rooms I have played in, the Rule is that his hand is dead.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe you'll find the vast majority of cardrooms have a "best interest" rule that supercedes all other rules. This situation is what that rule is for.

The rules say the hand is dead, but also say that the house can supercede rules when it makes sense to do so. In this case the floor blew it. If there is no doubt that Card Thrower had the best hand, he should be awarded the pot.

If the floor would have awarded the pot to a guy with a card on the floor, he would have been out of a job. You have to have two live cards to win. If clownie wants to throw his card on the floor, he no longer has two live cards.

I completely agree with Milo and Randy here.

In Vegas during the WSOP I played with a couple of European players (Denmark and England) who told me that the 2-card thing is more of an American thing and that at the card-clubs they have played at before you are actually allowed to show just 1 card and can take the pot with it.

(for example...on an ace-high board....one player turns over his pocket pair of K's...the other guy just shows his ace but doesn't even bother showing his kicker...and they push him the pot. British and Danish guys were both surprised that they had to show both cards over here but quickly adjusted to it)
