Default AKs on a KKx board

300+20 Big Deal (Pokerroom)

No hands for 1st 35 minutes. Blinds are 25-50.. I have 2400 chips in front of me...

I am dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] on the button. The BB is a small stack, so I will be pushing on him matter what. Folds to the CO, who raises to 300... no read on CO, he has only played in a few pots (no showdowns)

Pot is $675

I elect to just call here and see what the flop brings, I suppose I could have pushed... but it was early...

Flop comes... K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

CO bets out $800....

What is your play?

Just call. If you're lucky, he'll bluff the chips to you.

Call and get ready to jam the turn. I may be in the minority here but I actually like just calling with AK here since the blinds are still low and stacks are pretty deep. Hope you doubled up here.

Check, your hand is a monster and the board is safe. I might even wait for the river to raise here. No bet and I still might check on the turn. There are few legitimate monsters and your goal with them is to extract the maximum possible.

Push preflop. You have AK against a CO raise. This is huge, but AK is not a hand to trap with preflop.

You have to flat call on the flop. You have a huge hand and there is practically nothing that can beat you.

What about pushing this flop? A flat call will almost certainly be interpreted as the slowplay of a K. He will probably fold, but may call if he thinks you hit the 8 or are putting a move on him. I also think he has TT or 99 and was trying to be done with the hand quickly preflop and now on the flop. Therefore, you get no further money out of him after the flop (and are giving him two chances to hit his pocket pair).

Take the pot down now and be happy that you went from 2400 to 3500.

Uh you cant check if bet into.

I push preflop but I dont mind a call all that much. As for the flop... Just push... You have 1300 more after the bet, meaning he is going to be getting almost 3-1 on his call, and will call that with any pair and even AQ a lot of the time.

call here, if he checks the turn, check behind. If he checks the river, then you can push. And yes, I like calling behind PF too.
