Why did you raise the turn but not the flop?

I like a flop raise here. It's very draw heavy board including alot of over cards that can fall to beat you. Raise and make the flush pay and high card pay. The hand worked out nice but usually I like a raise in this situation.

Only called on the flop as i knew SB was a decent player, though afterwards i too thought it was too timid. When the turn card came down i raised to represent making a str8 with a 3, and figured if there was a 3 out there i'd know there and then how strong my overpair actually was.

your bets are too small. You should probably raise the flop.
The turn raise doesn't acheive anything. Flop I'd raise to 4. Turn I'd raise to 8. The river is fine, he's pretty pot-stuck when he bets the river. You didn't play this very well imo.

Unfortunately, the hand didnt have a happy ending.

Hero shows 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (straight to 8)
Button shows 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (straight to 9)

Button was 63VP$IP/16PFR according to PT, and he had just called a big all in with Q9o and outdrew an overpair when i arrived (gathered from the table discussion). I figured he had been slowplaying a 3 on the turn or calling with flush draw...thought my all in was safe either way, and could get him to call if he had a 3.

The 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] was the one hand i didnt consider. Was this a failing on my part?

I guess a big flop raise *might* have scared him off though i doubt it. If he had called, the turn card would have been a big scare card. But i agree i should have raised the flop.
