Preflop is a little thin, IMO. I'd like another guy in there before I play. I would check/raise the flop here.

If the PFR was in EP, I'd say DEFINITELY check-raise that flop.
Since he's in a MP here, it's slightly more difficult. You want to put in as many bets as possible without making too many people have to cold call 2-bets at once. I'd still opt for a check-raise here since it's the best chance of getting at least two bets in on this flop when you have such a HUGE draw. If you just lead out instead and the PFR had something like AK, it'd just be met with a bunch of calls. You want more than that with such a huge draw. Since you didn't define your hand on the flop, the turn and river play is more difficult than it should be. If you check-raised the flop and he called or raised, you could narrow his hand holdings down a bit from his action. If he called: AK with a spade is a strong possibility. JJ would fit here and maybe if he's REALLY passive AQ. If he raised: AQ, TT, QQ-AA are all strong possibilities. QT and 77 are also possibilities. By doing this you'd have a clearer idea what his raise on the turn meant. If he called the flop raise and bet the turn, you can be pretty sure he either has trip Js or AK (for the nut straight). |
