wasnt sure what to do.
9 handed 2/4. Im in 5th position with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5
Preflop: fold, bet 2, fold, call, I call, co call, button call, sb call, bb call. Flop: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] checked around. (should I have bet?) Turn: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] checked up to the button who bets, everyone folds except the 6th position and the BB. River: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] BB checks, 6th checks, button bets 4, BB calls, 6th folds BB has: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Button has: Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BB takes the pot with Ace high. I feel like a fool for not calling but with so many high cards and no set I didnt feel comfortable being a calling station. Is there anything I should have done differently? thanks in advance |

Re: wasnt sure what to do.
I believe you played it correct. I think you will lose to that board more times than that pair would win.

Re: wasnt sure what to do.
I think it is right not to call if somebody bets.
But I also think you should have bet the flop or turn yourself. I would definitely have bet the turn. You very likely have the best hand with all this passitivity. Kim |

bet the turn
When it got checked around on the flop, you should bet the turn when it got checked to you, especially with a turn card lower than your pocket pair.

Re: wasnt sure what to do.
Bet the flop. A K high flop with only one middle card is a good flop to semi-bluff. Since you checked the flop, once the turn brings another small card, you can still bet.
Now, if you face any kind of pressure after you bet, you'll have to do some thinking, but much of the time, your bet here will win the pot. If the K on the flop were an A, checking the flop and folding on the turn would be fine. The reason being that it is less likely for Kx to be played in an unraised pot than Ax. |

Re: wasnt sure what to do.
I'm assuming the "bet 2" preflop means raise. If that is true, I would fold a small pair unless 3 people had called the raise.
On the flop, I would not bet 3rd pair with two players still to act. I would bet the turn every time since the flop was checked through. |
