\"Clean\" account for new party skin
OK, I had posted this first in internet bonuses, then computer technical help - but its a ghosttown over there. So I deleted it from CTH and am reposting it here. Thanks for any input.
I'm wanting to install a new party skin on a machine that is already running several. I've successfully used the registry trick in the past, but I understand it doesn't work any more. Under Windows XP home, can I simply create a new user account and install the party skin from the "clean" account? Has anyone done this? Is there another method without finding a new computer? I know it sounds wierd but I really don't have another computer to go to, I need to get creative with what I have. Thanks, cbf |

Your question WAS answered in the bonuses forum. You are reposting it here because you didnt get the answer you wanted.
1.) NO, creating a new user account in WXP will not provide a clean registry to sign up with It is also not a matter of the registry trick no longer working, but that it is very hard (sometimes impossible) to do in WXP. If you do not have access to an auxillary computer, than you will have to reformat your HD, as explained to you in one of your other threads. |

Your question WAS answered in the bonuses forum. You are reposting it here because you didnt get the answer you wanted. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, if you read the thread, you'll notice that I wasn't the OP and that my specific question was met with a "I don't think so, but why don't you ask CTH". CTH is a very low traffic forum, I came here so someone would actually read my question before Tuesday, [ QUOTE ] 1.) NO, creating a new user account in WXP will not provide a clean registry to sign up with [/ QUOTE ] You say this with certainty, so I guess I'll take your word for it, all I was looking for was a straight answer to this question. Thanks. [ QUOTE ] It is also not a matter of the registry trick no longer working, but that it is very hard (sometimes impossible) to do in WXP. [/ QUOTE ] I was never told to reformat my drive, and I have no interest in doing this; I'm resourceful and will find some way around the current situation. Thank you for your time and input, however condescendingly it was stated. |
