AK in three-handed 5/10 NL (live)
home-game
Button raises to 35 (he opens about 60% of the hands for this amount). I pop it to 125 in the SB with AKo, which I've done twice before tonight. Once I showed JJ after they both folded, and once I got called by the button and won with a continuation bet on the flop. BB calls and button folds. BB has 660 left and I have him covered. BB is generally loose-aggressive pre-flop; post-flop he has been weirdly tight-passive against me tonight, although he did make a few tricky plays. In this situation I give him AA to 99, AK, or AQ – he is definitely capable of smooth-calling AA or KK here. 285 in the pot with 660 behind. Flop is AJJr. First question, what should my plan be here? I lead 150, and BB calls. From the way he calls I have a feeling he doesn’t have a monster, but I’m only somewhat confident of that. 585 in the pot with 510 behind. Turn is an 8 completing the rainbow. Now what do I do? |

Check flop to see what he does, this line doesnt tell you whether you're beat or not.

Re: AK in three-handed 5/10 NL (live)
i like your line so far. from what you described, the only likely hand he's got that beats you is AA or JJ. i'd lead for about 300 on the turn.

Re: AK in three-handed 5/10 NL (live)
I agree with the others that said you should check the flop. This way you keep the pot smaller because with your flop bet the size of the pot is now the size of your stack. A misstep here and you get stacked off. Another benefit to checking flop is you might get him to call with KK or QQ since you didn't really represent the ace.
Given your read, you're only beat by AA or quads here. You also said you don't feel he has a monster. If that's how you feel then go ahead and bet 300 on the turn. If he calls you might want to check/call or check/fold river. He's not going away when you put your last 200 in if he has any sort of holding, but he *might* bluff as a last resort if you check. I don't know your villian but i'm guessing he had AA right? What would he smooth call raise re-raise before the flop then smooth call on the flop. I think he reraises the flop if he has AQ. Re: AK in three-handed 5/10 NL (live)
ummm, only AA or JJ has him beat, if that's truely his hand selection I'm putting him on, only REALLY big stacks am I getting away from this, now if it includs JTs etc. then I check flop, but AK AQ AA-99, I bet flop, no free cards, and then on turn bet like 300, then rest on river.
