Default HU preflop

$50 live MTT final table HU. Blinds 5K/10K/1K. You have T400K, villain has T250K. Villain open raises to 55K. You are in the BB with 87o. What do you do?

It's impossible to answer. Heads-up play is all about the rhythm of the action, the betting patterns that have been established on prior hands, etc. It's so hard to look at a HU hand in a vacuum and determine the "right" play because I don't think you can win at HU if you make the same play every time.

While I agree with just about everything that Fnurt said, I still think that in this situation, its a pretty easy fold.

This is a great post, but let me give you a couple scenarios, blinds and stacks same as above...

SB makes it 20k, you have 72o, what do you do?

SB makes it 20k, you have AQo, what do you do?

SB makes it 60k, you have AQs, what do you do?

Your answers to all of these questions will be the same no matter what the rhythm is I hope. In the same vein, you are folding the 87o hand 100% of the time for a 5.5BB raise OOP.

"SB makes it 20k, you have 72o, what do you do?"
I fold, call or reraise (I can make a meaningful reraise without committing myself)

"SB makes it 20k, you have AQo, what do you do?"
I call or most likely reraise

"SB makes it 60k, you have AQs, what do you do?"
I call or most likely reraise

On OPs question: I'd fold most of the time because If I make any meaningful reraise I'm committed. I'd have to have very good reason to believe: 1. villain is able to fold a hand after putting in that kind of raise 2. villain has been very aggressive from the button 3. i have established a very tight/weak image.
