Default Re: Renting a car in Vegas

I think this post is a bit negative.

1. Cars dont run on air...you have to fill it back up with Las Vegas priced gasoline.

2. Dont forget the BS charges and taxes.

[/ QUOTE ]

I just rented a car in Vegas last month for 11 days. Total cost for car, taxes, fees and gas came out to $36/day. Of course, I also declined all of the optional insurance and protection stuff they try to tack on for $5-15/day.

4. Parking garages are free, but they aren't exactly next to the poker room (valet is not free, unless UR cheap). It takes AT LEAST 15 minutes to the poker room from any parking garage & then you gotta go back to it at 4 AM, then YOUR parking garage is another 15 minutes to your room!

[/ QUOTE ]

Travel time from the Wynn's parking garage to the poker room is about 1.5 mins if you park on the roof and walk down. Quicker otherwise.

The Bellagio and Mirage both have fairly long walks and it still takes me under 10 minutes to go from car to poker room.

I can't speak for other rooms.

As for lots of time, ever try standing in line at a taxi stand? That can take 15 mins or more at heavy times.

5. For what ever reason, you will be late for your flight...AND you have to go fill up the car with gas...AND you gotta go turn it in....AND the shuttle bus just left....AND the next shuttle bus broke down...AND...your standing there waiting in 120 degree heat...AND...

[/ QUOTE ]

C'mon. Don't be late. Problem solved. And it's similarly likely your cab will break down as the shuttle bus. This is just outright unnecessary pessimism.

6. A cab will pick you & your buds up and drop you off at the door of most any hotel for about the cost of the big blind in a $10/$20 game.

[/ QUOTE ]

And if you do that three times in a day (once to the casino, once to another casino, once back to the hotel) you've just spent as much as you would have for renting a car. Whereas if you rent a car, you can then drive to a nice place for dinner, go check out some other places you wanted to see, and have much increased freedom.

Costwise, renting a car sucks, but if you think you'll be doing any type of driving besides just to the poker room and back, having a rental is much preferable to cabbing it around town, which adds up real quick.

When going to Vegas with buddies we usually cab it so we can drink and not worry about driving. If that's not an issue, then renting a car there is fine.
