These situations never feel right
I can't figure out how to play this differently, but this didn't feel right. No reads at this point.
Party Poker 20/40 Hold'em (6 max, 3 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Re: These situations never feel right
I think its ok. I don't know how aggressive these guys are at higher limits but it doesn't look like he has a J and if he's gonna bluff it twice when you check than a c/c on the turn and the river looks good. Better to have him put bets into the pot then let him blow you off the lock.

Re: These situations never feel right
This is why playing OOP sucks..
I'm thinking checkraise this flop. Good chance the button will bet if it's checked to him, and you can knock out BB. Plus he'll be scared to bet the turn with less than a K or J, and (depending on the read) you can fold if he does. I like to go for checkraises in 6-max games whenever possible to allow me to check without showing weakness in other situations. In this case, you get both in one hand, no? |

Re: These situations never feel right
There is too high a chance of this flop being check through to go for a c/r after no one raised prelop. I would like to just take it down here, i dont think this would be a good spot for a c/r. If he has raised preflop, i am c/r his ass every time.

I think betting the turn is much better than check/calling.

Re: These situations never feel right
I just think that too often you are either calling with the worse hand or giving a free card. Did you intend to call the river as well were it not a king? If so, betting saves you a bet when raised as it's a pretty easy fold in a pot of this size. I just think check/calling twice in this spot is a pretty bad reverse implied odds situation. I will take your line sometimes when the pot is bigger, my hand is stronger, and I have reason to think I might be raised off the best hand.

I'm not used to many flops getting checked through in <=5/10 6-max though.. Most buttons I play against would auto-bet the flop here. Anyway, after betting the flop.. Would you have called down the river had been an overcard to your 7's, rather than pairing the K? If you were going to call the turn, you might as well bet it. Even OOP, you might get a free showdown that way if he doesn't have jacks or kings. If he raises the turn you can fold obviously. If he bets the river.. it's close. With this river card I'd lean toward calling. |

Re: These situations never feel right
I like check calling down here because villian could easily have a small pair or nothing the way the action has gone, but with my line you can get him to bluff or "value bet" some hands that might be worse, whereas there are limited better hands that he will just call me down with.
