Re: Possible new poker show
[ QUOTE ]
there are people on this forum that consider Tilt a masterpiece of modern production. [/ QUOTE ] actually from what I gather from previous posts, "Tilt" is the worst thing to happen to both poker and television. |

Hoop dreams
Did you ever see "hoop dreams"? A documentary film following various talented basketball youth (from tough environments/neighborhoods), who each were pinning their entire hopes of having a future on becoming professional basketball players (or at the very least, getting full, rides to college). Lots of related folk (families/communities) rode their hopes on the success of these youngsters as well, making the psychological burdens that much more intense. The injuries.. the humanity of it was brutal
If there were a show that folowed the real-life (not MTV "real life" but true stories) arc of wannabee poker players who pin their hopes on winning at poker (dropping out of school, hitting the poker circuit, whatever) and showed how they dealt with the many obstacles along the way --- this would be fascinating to me personally. Throw a bunch of yahoos into a casino and listen to them complain about the hotel food, the soliciting hookers, bad dealers, and poor poker play of fellow contestants.. and you'll get exactly that - derivitive schlock That would suck. But then again I despise most of the reality shows because they are precicely the opposite of what they pretend to be. |
