sorry, should have said "low mid limit" but this mostly happens at games around 10-20. For those who haven't played the Foxwoods 10-20 stud game, it really is that bad at times.

Explain to him that you always check raise if you believe that the probability of him betting AND calling your raise is at least half of the probability of him calling if you bet.
Its up to you if you want to add in a discussion of making adjustments when going for a 3-bet.

Seriously though, just say something like "Sometimes the guys in my home game do that. What are the rules in this casino?"

Also, you may not want to check-raise anyone heads up. Sometimes it makes them feel stupid, which can make them start to play better or to leave sooner than they would have.

What, did everyone in this forum fail psychology?

option a) say I have no idea what you are talking about. Let him explain himself till he is blue in the face... he will be satisfied 8% of the time, even if you do raise as the game proceeds.

B) Smile, wink, and be overly friendly while you say "I'll only raise if you don't", or "only when you check", or something silly like that. make friends, not enemies. Kill your opponents with kindness.

Ask them what they mean by 'check and raise', then when they tell you, say "Oh, are you allowed to do that?"

Then check raise whenever the opportunity presents itself, and thank the guy who asked the question for telling you about this 'new' strategy.

I always feel like a dick when I checkraise someone in a live game. I feel as though the person is actually insulted by me checkraising them.

Maybe I'm too nice?

I want to sit in your game. ALWAYS. Think about that for a while, I think you will change your mind.

This isn't really much of an issue for me since the local players know me, however I'd probably answer that, "I'm not really sure what your talking about I came to play poker."

I would try and trap him logically by making it appear as though I don't understand the question.

HIM: "Do you play check and raise?"
ME: "Um...I think you are allowed to. Dealer? Are you allowed to check and raise in this game?"
DEALER: "Yes"
ME: "OK. Does that answer your question sir?"
HIM: "I am asking if YOU check and raise?"
ME: "Do you mean am I going to check and raise on this hand?"

and so on.

Basically, rather than answer, I would try and make the guy look foolish for asking. If it came down to it, the most I would say is "I make whatever play makes the most sense at the time."

If they want to be constantly on the lookout for me check-raising, then I think that plays right into my hands.

1. First thing I'd do, if I were ThomasPHoolery, is probably kill myself.

2. I'd take Luv's line here... come up with something funny and deflecting to say, and don't answer the question directly. Giving any kind of direct answer is -EV. If you think answering "yes" is bad, how bad will answering "no" be and then actually check-raising. Yowza.
