UTG woes
I can't get bison's converter to work...
I have 2 HHs with UTG situations. In one, I'm dealt JJ UTG in Level 1 of a $22. I have no reads. JJ is strong, and I can't fold it, but the question is should I limp or raise? My instinct is to raise, but if someone comes over top will your average 22 or 33 player have JJ beat?? The second is 5-handed, BB=T150 and I'm UTG with KQ. My instinct says this is a push or fold situation. I'm leaning towards fold. Agree? Re: UTG woes
Hand #1. HU, I bet out. With two people in, I play it like you. Too high of a chance someone is betting a weak A to raise.
Hand #2. I push here. Pretty solid hand 5-handed and you have 8BB or so. |

Re: UTG woes
1st one is well played
for the 2nd one, how tight is the table? if they fold a lot and won't call you with hands like AJ, i think you can push |

Re: UTG woes
1) Hand one, as I'm sure you realize, falls into that gray in-between land. Posters have made solid arguments for both actions, but here's my 2 cents. I limp. Why pray tell? Because in my experience, postflop play at lower limits sucks, and jacks are very insecure when they have to do lots of manuevering after they miss and overcards flop (most of the time). This is how I see it at most $10 tables, and I would expect it to be very similar at the $20s. Against stronger opponents, you can be more precise about reading hands and play your JJ with more confidence, but against weaker players, I don't want to commit too much before I know the absoulte value of my hand (determined by the board), given that it's so much more difficult to determine it's relative value (determined by "wtf did he call with?"). So am I saying play JJ for set/overpair value UTG early in the game? Ewww...I think I am. Later in the game, go nuts with this hand, but, for now, raising sacrifices too much for too little IMO.
2) Yeah, I believe this is a fold. The blinds are putting pressure on you, but I don't think KQ can stand up to 4 other random hands. BB/SB won't cripple you and then you'll be in better stealing position. I tear up a little and pass here. |
