Rake Effect on Implied Odds
My general question is, at a B&M Casino where you have to count the amount of bets for yourself, doesn't the rake have an immediate correlation to your pot/implied odds? For instance, if you believe you'll get 3 bets on the turn, should you only count 2 bets because of 1 of them goes to the rake?
Similarly, doesn't this effect pot odds too? If not, tell me why, if so-- is it correct strategy to discount however many bets goes to the rake, and then act accordingly? Thanks. |

Re: Rake Effect on Implied Odds
what limit are you playing where a whole bet on the turn goes to the rake? 2/4?

Re: Rake Effect on Implied Odds
The short answer is definitely yes.
The rake changes the size of the pot. It will also slightly affect implied odds, though notice that the way most rakes are structured additional bets on future streets will often involve only kicking the rake up $1 more dollar. In most games at reasonable limits, the rake will not often be a deciding factor in most decisions. In a $20/40 game with a $4 max rake, for example, you can almost through the rake out completely as a consideration. I have played games, though where it's a huge effect. At Turning Stone, they used to rake the $3/6 game with a max rake of $3, which would be taken in one swoop as soon as the pot hit $10. Needless to say, this drastically changed to incentives for things like blind stealing. |

Re: Rake Effect on Implied Odds
Okay, that definitely helps-- as I'm sure in my local cardroom where all that's offered is $1/$2, the rake makes a HUGE difference.
Now I'll definitely need to pay attention to how many chips the dealer pushes towards himself. Thanks guys. |
