Default Help Out A Politics Noob

People seem to catergorize people on a one-dimensional line

what does it mean to be left/liberal?

what does it mean to be right/conservative?

intuitivly to me i think it's silly that people's political beliefs could be accuratly decribed in a one-dimensional space, do you guys agree/disagree?

It is a silly and ineffective way to do it.

Here's a better political compass:

And here is the quiz that goes along with it:

Yep. Here are my results, for what it's worth:

"ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS, You fall exactly on the border of two political philosophies... liberal and libertarian."

I don't think you're liberal enough.

Jk. Work on pushing that red dot up and to the left. Most people should be getting 100 on the personal score.

Heh, they put me in libertarian, on the top of the triangle just above centrist, the one nearest to liberal.

Mack (does this make me a bad person)

I'm a libertarian, but that quiz is bullshit. It's clearly worded to favor the libertarian answers. For example, "End 'corporate welfare.' No government handouts to business"

Well anyway, it's a good graph and way of categorizing political beliefs, especially when famous people are represented by little dots. It would be interesting to see how various people score if the questions didn't push you in a certain direction.

I hate the self-gove.org quiz. I like this one better, but I think it has its own set of problems too.
