Ub.net pro tip of the day!!
Hellmuth just came on with a little feature in the re-run of the UB tourney thing on Fox.
They even laid out his top 10 hands on the table in the supposedly correct order of importance (AA, KK, QQ, AK, JJ, TT, 99, 88, 77, AQ....no distinction made between AK and AW suited or unsuited). He was preaching patience and to play ONLY those hands. For some reason I would think he would be so embarrassed by the ripping his very tight and basic advice that he wouldn't harp on it. But instead he is featuring it and talking about how he 'will tell you in his books and DVD's to play only these hands'. So evidently he's not SO embarrassed to stop doling out such advice. Phil Hellmuth rocks!!!! Also kind of amusing that this would be the feature in a tourney where the blind-structure appears to be such that patience is NOT much of an option and every player is forced to play anything and everything above and beyond the 'Hellmuth top 10'. |

Re: Ub.net pro tip of the day!!
When i first got started Play Poker Like the Pros was one of the first books i read, and i used the "top 10 hands" strategy to build my initial bankroll with bonuswhoring. I credit Phill with making me realize what tight agressive play really is. I've since moved on to better strategies and much better books, but for somebody who doesn't know anything I often reccomend they start with the top 10 hands.

Re: Ub.net pro tip of the day!!
I hate to say it but if the majority of players played only those hands, they'd probably make more money.
Remember, most people aren't very good and their main problem is that they play too loose. I don't think his advice is awful for beginners. If they can play just those hands and be profitable and slowly add hands to their repertoire, they may have a chance of slowly improving rather than going bust right when they start. Ryan |
