Cap preflop to get heads up w/ 88 here?
SB is terrible (70/10) and has only $5 left when he 3-bets preflop, so I put him on any two, spewing off the rest of his chips. UTG is pretty much new to the table, so no reads. MP is loose but not too aggressive, and he generally has been folding to aggression.
Ultimate Bet 5/10 Hold'em (4 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG raises, Button calls, SB 3-bets, Hero caps ?? |

Re: Cap preflop to get heads up w/ 88 here?
i don't think they will ever fold. i'd cold-call to allow two things:
- see if UTG caps - allow SB to auto-bet his last chip on the flop, giving you a perfect opportunity to fold missed overcards after you see a nice flop i think the cap just bloats the pot and prevents you from ever facing anyone with two bets. now overcards will always see the turn card, and possibly the river. |

Ok, good points. If I cold-call, what's the basic flop plan if UTG caps? C/R rags and C/F overs?

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, that's about the size of it. A point worth remembering is that if you win this pot you will virtually always get SB's last $5 no matter how you play it. You are getting 2-1 practical odds on your cap instead of the nominal 3-1 odds for three callers. The point is that your cap is not fetching new money from SB into the pot. All you are doing is moving his flop contribution into the preflop. It won't make the pot any bigger in the end. |

Re: Cap preflop to get heads up w/ 88 here?
Yeah, I wasn't worried about getting SB's last $5. My intent was to try to get it heads up but on reflection that was just dumb.
My best move in this hand was catching an 8 on the flop... |

It was actually UB, where there are perhaps more weak-tight guys, but I think the fact remains that I was not going to isolate...
