Let's say he calls pf and then flop is: 1) Ace - King high: he checks, you bet, most of the time he folds, if he raises it's an easy fold. If he calls I'd bet the turn too with the intention of check-folding. 2) Queen-Jack high: you are probably ahead. 3) Other flops: 2 overcards, I bet flop and turn... |

QJ by a good deal. You may win more hands with A8 but you will win bigger pots with QJ since you have 2 chances for top pair versus basically one.
Also, if an Ace flops and you arent reraised preflop you can often take down the hand on the flop. Additionally, with QJ you will tend to know where you preflop better as well. Assuming you will raise either hand on the button, many good players will 3-bet with any ace. If you think you are up against an ace, QJ is much easier to play than A8. |
