I got the first three, but swtiched #4 and #5 around. It's probably a longshot, but I hope one of them sticks around and breaks Emmitt's record. I dislike Emmitt and it should've been Barry's record.

I'm not disputing that they are among the best backs of all time, I just don't think of them on the level of the top 3. Clearly I'm not the only one who thinks this or this thread wouldn't exist. Maybe it's because they are still playing and I've followed their entire careers, but their numbers are more a function of their durability and longevity than their dominance.

How can you say this?

Baryy didn't even WANT the record. Said when he retired that it didn't matter to him. So why SHOULD the record be his?

Its probably because neither of them has a ring or is flashy. But they've carried their teams for ten years +. Both can be dominant though, they just don't do it in championship games. There's never been a big back with Bettis speed and he could control the game, move the chains, and make it very difficult for opposing teams get the ball, slow the clock etc. As for CM, only Emmitt seems a mor durable, productive versatile workhorse back. Yes, he runs standing nearly straight up and doesn't seem to be very fast anymore. But he's a great, great back.

He was probably better than every back. But saying "much better" is much too much.

No, I think it's because between them both they've led the league in rushing once. Brown led 8 times, and Sanders, Emmitt, Dickerson and OJ led 4 times each.

Though Payton only winning one rushing title kind of diminishes my point.

I thought it was Dickerson instead of Martin. So I was close, at least.
