What if you were dealt 88, every time
HU, you get dealt the same two cards, 88, every time. Your opponent knows it, and knows the suits.
Could you win? |

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
Depends on the opponent. Even an average player has the upper hand and will most likely beat you in such a situation. You'll beat only the stupidest of players who will play and chase any two cards to the river hoping to beat you by drawing to their one overcard.

It's not only that she knows what you have, it's that you *don't* know what she has. She would always know when to fold her cards, while you would never know when to fold yours. She could bet every overcard, and she would be correct to.

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
How could you win, your opponents would only play hands that could beat yours. Unless of course, you were in a game with players who played every hand and chased every draw.

[/ QUOTE ] So if they don't outflop you, they fold? I think you would win. No, they will have to bluff often to beat you. The question is can you pick these off. |

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
Are you only playin against one opponent?
If not the odds are pretty good that someone will outflop you. Then they know they have the best hand, but you don't. |

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
Oh, sorry I just saw that. It still puts you at a disadvantage, because he knows your hand, and you don't know his.
If he only plays starting hands that have both cards higher than an 8, i think he has about a 35% chance to flop a pair. So there is still a pretty good chance that he outflops you. Of course if this is no-limt you are a favorite over all hands except 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK, and AA. So if you give him less than 2-1 odds to call preflop, he has a very small chance to have you beat and you are making his call a bad call. If this is limit, I don't see how you could win without, as you said, picking off his flop and postflop bluffs. |

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
if the blinds were high you'd win more than your share easily. if the blinds were extremely low you'd have no chance.

Re: What if you were dealt 88, every time
Sorry, meant to say limit. If no-limit, you'd just push preflop alot.
I think in a limit game, I think I could beat the vast majority of players at this game. I don't think my opponent will be able to show a better hand very often, and I don't think bluffing alone will get the job done against me. |
