Is it appropriate to ask ...
Playing 3-6 mid afternoon, and the table starts to thin out. My table has 5 players, and the only other table at this level has 6. The floor says that he'll combine the games if it gets down to 10, but can't do anything else.
Here's the question -- with 5 players would it have been appropriate for me to ask the floor to reduce the rake until we had a fuller table? If yes, anyone have an idea of what my chances of succeeding would have been? |

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
you can never gain anything by not asking, sometimes you get lucky when you ask. Just be polite and expect him to say no. Cuz theyll probably say no.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
I would just say I'm not playing 5-handed. That usually brings the floor over and they will draw to see which of the 5 sits out until a spot opens.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
Most places will cut the rake when the game gets short, but only if you ask. So definitely ask in the future.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
In my room, when it gets to 6 players you have to ask for a (rake) reduction. Some dealers will even hint at it since they can't 'offer' it. In my room the chances of succeeding are 100%.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
In AC (at least at Harrah's and Borgata), the placards actually say that the rake is halved when it's 6-handed or less. Of course, that's for 2/4, but I imagine it holds true at higher limits as well.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
it is absolutely appropriate. last time i asked for a break it was at the Borgata $6/12, 6 handed, $1 max rake. but you have to ask.

Re: Is it appropriate to ask ...
The only downside to a rake reduction in small stakes is if the game is a jackpot game it will no longer be jackpot eligable. In most card rooms the game must be 4 handed or more and be full rake.

[/ QUOTE ] There are many places that will take the jackpot dollar and let a short game play for the jackpot. This business of it having to be a full rake game to play for the jackpot seems to be limited to MS. When I lived in Vegas a common low limit rake adjsutemnt 4 or 5 handed was "no rake, take the JP $1 if you want to play for that." |
