In the U.S. the guys decendents would likely bring a lawsuit claiming excessive force and I'm not kidding. Don't know what is likely to happen in Great Britain.

don't these cops have some non-violent way of taking down fleeing criminals? [/ QUOTE ] Not when they suspect that the criminal in question is heading into a crowd in order to detonate a bomb. |

[/ QUOTE ] No doubt they do, but I don't think they have anyway of taking them down that insures that they can't trigger a bomb first. Of course, if an actual terrorist has a bomb rigged with a "dead man" switch, shooting him is not a good idea. |

[/ QUOTE ] In the U.S. they would probably have a case [/ QUOTE ] They wouldn't have a case in any country, assuming the police had some information on which to base their suspicions. (Since they were surveilling his residence, I assume they did.) Therefore, the police were within their rights to detain him by force. To argue that lethal force was unreasonable in the situation is ludicrous. No case. |

To argue that lethal force was unreasonable in the situation is ludicrous. [/ QUOTE ] No one is making such a claim as far as I can see, your implied suggestion that wearing a padded coat and being frightened is a capital crime is also a little far fetched. Mack |
