Default Free Concert (Styx) to go or not to go.

Styx is playing the local county fair at the free grandstand tonight. The wife and I are torn on wether to go or not. We really have nothing better to do. So....

There's no way seeing Styx is ever free.

I saw them a few years ago ("them" is very relative as I think there's only a couple original members still in the band), but anyways, it was a good show and I'd recommend going.

Sitting in the grandstand is free, you can also get reserved seats for like $20, I think.

Take that $20 and find some really nice kabob skewers and jam them into your temples.

Same results as seeing the show, with much less prolonged pain.

That said. One of the best shows I've ever been to was Steppen Wolf and The Guess Who, free at the fairgrounds.

Styx rocks, or at least they used too. I saw the remaining members at the fairgrounds/agricultural expo a couple years ago and while the lead singer they have is no Dennis DeYoung, he ain't bad at all. They should delivier a good version of "Renegade" but I was disapponted they only included 'Mr. Roboto' as part of a melody. The best part was watching the croud of has been and never been white trash reliving their high school days when they used to rock out in their van.

ps. Dennis Deyoung is currently touring and I look forward to seeing him in Mass in september with John Waite.

In the last few years seeing bands I previously held a "Meh" attitude about in concert converted me to being a fan (Journey, Cheap Trick, Collective Soul). STYX reinforced my contempt for their "art rock" brand of music.

Talented musicians- shitty music.

I saw them in concert when I was in high school. They put on a pretty good show.

Of course, that was 1982, so I suspect their may be differences...

I saw them about three years ago. Great show. They did their songs, some BTO and a named Eric somebody was with them (I can't remember his name but they did some of his songs too).

Now these guys are probably 60 and sat on chairs for the first half of the show, but they can still play and sing. (And from the looks of them make more trips at the Old Country Buffet than me )
