Re: Poorly played set
I understand what you were trying to do and it makes sense to me in a vacuum, but I think it fails to take into account that the size of the pot was large. Large enough so that I think you should have been trying to win it (or, if that didn't cause everyone to fold, then more money in by opponents with worse hands . . . hopefully) right there. What I see is you calling with 12.5SB on flop, 18.5SB also on flop, 10.75BB on turn, and 14.75BB on the river. All of this in the name of getting others to make more bets. I don't think you need more bets. They are there for the taking right now, and you should be trying to get it right now.

Re: Poorly played set
The flop is your biggest error, I think. You're right, flush draws aren't folding. But flush draws are only coming in 35% of the time. That means that the rest of that money belongs to you. The pot is a decent size already, so feel free to raise here anyway. You know any flush draws will come along anyway, but you can narrow the field making your set hold up.
On the turn, raise this. CO raised, but the UTG+1 Stop n' Go has a good chance of making him nervous. And if CO was raising for a free card on the turn, he's not raising this. Raise, and make it unprofitable for gutshots to call. Going for overcalls on the river is fine, imo. |

Re: Poorly played set
The only time I don't raise a flop like that is when I'm heads up in a small pot or if I'm playing with a couple bluff happy fish on a flop like 3-7-10 rainbow. Raise.

Final Pot: 16.75 BB Just so everyone does not think I am a complete moron I am going to try and justify the way I played this hand. Preflop- pretty standard right? Flop- I was not going to be able to push anyone off of a flush draw so I figgured I would wait until the turn to raise. Turn- this I was counting on CO to raise again so when it got back to me I could 3-bet or cap it. But he checked so I look like a moron. River- this was not that scary of a card. When it got around to me I was hoping both people behind me would call, but I only got one. Looking back I think there probably should have been about 3 raises from me in there somewhere. I just wanted to know what better players thought. [/ QUOTE ] The only way I don't mind just calling the flop on the first time through is if villain is the sort who will auto-bet/auto-raise after a preflop raise. Then I would get to pull a happy call/3-bet on the flop, giving away my hand (sets love to be played that way), but getting paid off anyway. I'm showing down this hand 99% of the time and it's not the sort of hand I can protect. Therefore, I'm just trying to get as many bets as possible in the pot. |
