New to 2$/4$ on party, give me some tips please...
After grinding it out for 25k hands at 0.50$/1.00$ and 17k hands at 1$/2$, I've finally decided to move up to 2$/4$.
I've only played about 500 hands so far and I'm doing ok, but I find that the game is so much tighter than 1$/2$. Since I'm only starting I'm only playing 2 tables instead of 4, but I find that I have a really hard time finding a good table, the average V$IP is never above 30 for very long and I've seen it drop bellow 20 a couple times. It's really a rock garden, with a couple players having V$IP bellow 10... I have to jump table a lot and I wonder if I'll be able to play 4 tables in this context... Now, I'm a TAG, so my raises pre-flop often win the pot uncontested and continuation bets also work well. And if the rock plays back, I know to fold everything except the pure nuts. So far it's working out, but it seems it's a much different game then what I'm used to. Anybody can provide any advices or links to good post to help with the transition from 1/2 to 2/4, any help is welcome. Thanks in advance... |

Datamine religiously. Add those players. Add players every time you're leaving a table. Trust me - the good tables are definitely out there. |

I'm not sure what you're talking about. After playing 1.5K hands of 2/4, I'm siding with the "2/4 is looser than 1/2 full ring" crowd.
The players at 2/4 play noticably better postflop though. |

I'm making that transition too. My experience has been different though.
I'm thinking that 2/4 is actually easier. granted I'm saying that after only 2k hands and while running incredibly well (+117bbs). at 2/4 over 2k hands average vpip 27.52 average pot size 27.47 at 1/2 over 10k hands average vpip 24.30 average pot size 13.73 so far 2/4 is a bit looser and the pots are both close to 7bb averages. It seems there are always atleast a couple of LPPs and LAGs at a table. |

thanks all for the feedback. Do you play on specific time of days? I played my last 200 hands in the afternoon, around 2pm, it might explain why it was so tight.
At 1/2, I prefered the afternoon games than the night/weekend games, it was still pretty loose and with less maniacs, the variance was lower, I guess the same will apply to 2/4... Thanks |

I also found 2/4 to be looser pre flop but tougher post flop than 1/2. I know 10k hands at 1/2 6max helped my game and aggression tremendously before I moved up. As already stated though, look out for the downswing. I was up 100BB after 2k hands and promptly dropped 110BB in 300 hands, then 40 more the next 700 hands. I’ve since gone back to 1/2 6max but will retry 2/4 in another week or so.

The players at Party 2/4 full are ridiculously weak-tight. Try to steal as many pots and blinds as you can. Especially on the turn.
