Was the first day field of the WSOP ME weaker in 2005 than 2004?
I think it is accepted that the 2004 field was weaker than 2003.

I did not play in '04. I thought my table this year was very weak, with several players that were downright bad. I can't imagine the average field strength went up with the addition of 3000 players, few of whom had ever played a live deepstack tournament.
I'm still blaming myself for failing to capitalize. |

I can't speak for the ME, but I saw not just one, but TWO people try to open-fold their BB when it was limped to them in an earlier limit HE event. I mean, don't they give out info sheets on how to play poker to all the internet qualifiers? Do people not read them?

I saw this a couple of times, too. It was pretty embarrassing.

first day of the main event competition wasn't that great. I expected a whole lot more but you know they get weeded out fast.
was sitting next to this girl who honestly pushed all 10k in chips every time she was on a flush and thought she could semibluff. of course i took her out pretty quickly |

Re: Was the first day field of the WSOP ME weaker in 2005 than 2004?
It was a stange feeling to realize I was standing in a giant room where 2000 people were playing poker, where even I (but not having even $1k for a cheap event ) could probably take serious $$$ of at least 80% of the people there. Of the other 20% who could kick my butt, almost all of them would lose to 80% who couldn't. It makes you think...

Re: Was the first day field of the WSOP ME weaker in 2005 than 2004?
5th hand of ME day 1c at my table.
4 limpers, SB completes, BB checks.(I am not involved) Pot 300 Flop: 663 rainbow SB checks, BB bets 300, 1 call, 4 folds. Pot 900. Turn: 5, BB bets 600, EP raises to 2100, BB thinks, calls. Pot is 5300 River: 5 Board is 66355, BB checks, EP bets 3000, BB calls. EP: has J6 off suit for nut full house, BB: has K3 off suit for three pair(I guess???) 11,300 pot with J6os, life was good for that guy. |

Re: Was the first day field of the WSOP ME weaker in 2005 than 2004?
I played at several different tables on Saturday, day 1c, and most of them were pretty bad, aside from this "Tex" character on my left at the very start of the day. Didn't play with him too long but when our table broke we were the only two players that were up...him to the tune of around $20,000 very early on. Little did I know at the time that he was headed for the final table. Great player and a very nice guy, by the way.
