I also notice that the goal of a true B&M player{I am not referring to the drunk recreational player} is to improve at every level in order to be able to compete against the best players with the biggest stakes.

The internet players, at least on 2+2, seem to want to improve and build up a bankroll by starting at $.01/$.02(1 cent/ 2 cents}, and then fighting their way all the way up to 8 tables of $3/$6 , at which point they consider quitting their jobs to go "pro".

[/ QUOTE ]

That probably means that the B&M player you just described is worse at the job poker than the internet player. All that really matters is improving the hourly wage, but short and long term.

I don't think anyone here is content to forever multitable 3/6. It's just the first time you're making serious money. But it's still only a stepping stone. Surely even B&M players spend a rather long time on the plateau where they make $60-$100/hr?

Once their game is polished enough internet players step up as well. We have plenty of people who 12 months ago were multitabling 3/6 who today are multitabling 15/30. A few who played 10/20 last year are in the 100/200 games today.

I'm not playing poker as a sport. I'm playing poker as a job. Testing myself against Sklansky, Negreanu or Brunson wouldn't give me any special satisfaction. If given the choice between a 40/80 game with Roy Cooke in it, and one with a couple of clueless conventioneers I'll sit with the conventioneers every time. (However I guess Mr. Cooke will join me promptly.)

My experience, from living in Philadelphia (which gives me the opportunity to play a significant amount in Atlantic City), is that I am able to win at substantially higher poker levels in B&M Casinos as compared with online. I play at 5/10 up to 20/40 in B&M's (depending on how much I've depleted my live wins by playing online), however, online, I am uncomfortable playing at anything over 5/10.

I don't think B&M players have much on those who play online. That being said, anyone who cares to put any stock in my opinion should realize that I (along with many other regular B&Mer's, I suspect) are more prone to tilting online.

There seems to be enough winning B&M players that cant beat the online game to ask this question.

Playing only ONE TABLE at a time online do the B&M players tend to suffer more bad beats than at B&M room?

If yes,why?

Yes.

I wish I knew the precise reason so I could change it. Originally, I thought that it might be people calling down too far, but once I decided to test this theory, I found that there is a similar amount of the "I refuse to fold once I'm in the hand" kind of people in B&M's. I now believe, though admittedly can't prove, that it is due to the substantially higher number of hands played online versus live in a given time period. Another theory, which I don't personally believe, but has been suggested by friends, is that this is due to the fact that online poker presents a greater number of poor players, out of which at least one will stay around long enough to put a bad beat on me. This theory is premised on the notion that better players get bad beats placed on them more often. I don't find this credible, however, because if I am a better player then I should be up over time (which I am, but only by about $3000 this year, which is not much given the amount of time I play - I have played less time in B&M's and I am still up more). Anyway, I digress.

I think you are on the right track.Internet players seem to put more emphasis on luck to get them through a hand. They tend to stay in when they dont hit the flop but need runner runner to win and with six players in a pot some are bound to get lucky.
EXAMPLE: Online you get AA, KK or any big starting hand any you get to cap the betting pre flop. You will still have players in the pot with K6o,J4s,A2s,that will catch the K or 6 on the flop and second pair by river or flush on river with runner runner. In B&M I think you dont run into this as often because the players can actually SEE your strength and react accordingly.

I know I will get flamed for this statement because those are the players you want in the pot but I think that is debatable.

Where are you playing? What limits are you playing at the lowest limits players are usually worse live in comparison to online. Thing about live, the lowest limits are usually 2/4 or 3/6. Online they can drop to as low as .01/.02, and .5/1 on party, so the worst players are usuaully at the lowest level anywhere you go.

Some online players are pretty good at the 3/6, 5/10 and 10/20 level while at the same limits live same can not be said. Most games online tend to be a lot more aggressive than live. Alot of limping and large pots live at moderate limits in comparison to online. Maybe that's just my experience.

My normal game is 15/30 limit but since I am down 8k I dropped down to 2/4 and 3/6 or 5/10. The final bad beat for me at 15/30 is when I had AK utg I raised and capped pre flop.Flop was AKQ,turn 6,river Q . SB had Q6o.

I played 2/4 for 2hours today.I had AA once and lost to KK that caught quads. That is not really a bad beat but the players that stayed in after the flop had J2s A4o and Q9. They went to showdown with that which I know is good to some extent. I had to fold JJ raised pre flop when flop was Qxx.AQ won the hand at river. I folded J4 o pre flop that is only hand that would have won on a board of 2356k.Over $100 in blinds 2 hours later I quit.

internet players are far better on average. i played bm exclusively for about 2 years and i was a slight winner. after 3 monthes 4tabling online i was by far better than anyone else in the bm games. seeing 300 hands an hour and evaluating your play will elevate your game exponentially.

If they post on 2+2 we tell them they are just running good and their sample size is to small.

Haha! Ain't that the truth.

Ask around and see how many B&M mid-stakes players can make $500k/yr at the tables. Also note that mid-stakes games online are a lot tougher than their live counterparts.
