Default What should I have done?

Here is the situation:

I have $5500 chips and we are down to 300 players from 1000. The blinds were 50/100 and I am in 4th position. I have AQs and raise to $300, seems pretty standard.

Everyone folds except the chip leader who has $15000 chips. He simply calls.

The flop comes:

Qh 4d 2s

I moved all-in with top pair and kicker. He called and showed KQ. I am over 90% favorite here and needless to say I lost to a King on the river.

My question is how others would have played the flop. I felt like I had the best hand at the time which I did and I didnt want to play my hand slowly and let him draw me out.

What should I have done in this situation or did I play it correctly?

Thoughts?

Seems like a massive overbet to me, you're getting called too often by hands that beat you. Lay out a smaller bet, and push to a raise.

How much should I have raised on the flop? I just didnt think he would have called my pre-flop raise in late position with a 2 or 4 in his hand unless he had a pair. I though he may have a queen but he is worse than me here.

What amount should I have raised?

I would have bet 3/4 of the pot, you want to be called here on a drawless board with top pair top kicker. You were lucky he was a donk and had a queen in his hand, people will be laying down to your overbet way too often for it to make sense and you want to make a continuation bet so that people think the flop may have missed you and will call or try to bluff reraise you.

Thanks articfox. That makes a lot of sense and was exactly what I was looking for. I should not have been concerned with being drawn out here and just made a bet that lurd more money into the pot.

Agree with this advice.

All-in on the flop is a poor play, 70% of the time your opponent is going to fold. 20% of the time, they will call and you will be beat (Overpair, Two Pair, or Set), and only about 10% of the time will you be ahead like you were.

3/4 Pot bet is my preferred wager here.

Let's say I bet 3/4 pot and he moves in on me? Do you call?

Thanks for your help!
