How badly did I misplay KK?
Did I play this weak passive? On the flop I just called hoping for button to call, planning to raise on the turn if it wasn't a heart. Is my thought process way off here?

Re: How badly did I misplay KK?
At least one of these guys has gotta have Ax and will call you all the way down to the river. You do not need the call button on this hand.

Re: How badly did I misplay KK?
You've gotta raise that flop. If button is drawing to hearts, you need to at least make an effort to push him off it. If a heart comes and someone comes to life you can call down or fold depending on your read. But you have to protect your hand by raising here.

you need to bet and raise more when you have sets.

Re: How badly did I misplay KK?
I would flat call the flop, and raise the turn no matter what fell.

1) The button will almost never be drawing to hearts. This is a wasted worry since he hasn't acted yet and there is only a 5% chance that he has a heart draw. 2) Let me know the day that someone does fold a heart draw here. A raise will never work to push the heart draw out the the pot though you can get some good value from it as it is only about 25% to win at this point. Brad |

Re: How badly did I misplay KK?
What you have here is what we call a monster; a hand very unlikely to lose. We like monsters. Monsters are our friends. So when you have a monster, tend to bet and raise. Alot. Skirts are not necessary in these hands.
Your decision NOT to raise the flop here should never be because you want to see a non heart turn with such a strong hand. It should be because the field is small and you want to try and extract value out of people who you have absolutely crushed. Now, I can kind of see a justification for calling the flop to raise the turn in order to get more value out of your opponents, but when the turn comes, you do have to raise it, regardless of what it is. Noone is guaranteed to have the flush and you have mega outs to beat them on the river if they have it. Additionally, anyone with a high heart is pretty much forced to call any of your bets and raises to see the river, which will disappoint them 4 times in 5. So yeah, this was pretty weak. |
