Default River: Check or bet.

Do you check or bet this river after BB checks?

BB had only been at the table for 5 hands and played one.

And yes, I believe hero made a mistake to not open-raise pre-flop.

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) http://216.119.70.224/converter/hhconverter.pl

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
3 folds, Hero calls, 3 folds, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, SB folds, BB 3-bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.50 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.

River: (6.50 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero??

Final Pot: 8.50 BB

I would raise this turn. Even with a worse pair there is a good chance he will call down HU, and I think there is a pretty good chance you are ahead.

The way it played out, bet the river for value.

Tough. I would check. It certainly seemed like you were behind on the flop, unless he had QT which just pulled ahead (or T8 which likewise did).

Raise preflop. Open limping with KJo in mp is asking for trouble. River is close, but I think I'd bet here. The Q didn't help villain unless he is going for a weird check/raise, and you'll get called down by a weaker J or a smaller pair often enough. Fold to a check/raise though.

Beginner replying blind:

He got to see the flop for free, so he could literally have anything. He liked the flop enough to 3-bet, and he liked the turn. I'd probably check thinking he was trying to check-raise me. That 3-bet has me thinking about an ugly two pair.

Really?? Another 3-bet would suck. Would you call or fold to a 3-bet?

Raise pf. It looks to me like hero has a pair of jacks and is scared of the Q, or the possible str8. I think you have a better kicker or would have raised pf. This argument is putting villian on an extremely narrow range of hands though. He might be getting tricky with something or be on a busted draw (i can't see which one that the 9 doesnt complete)? If he is on a draw, he will fold to a bet, if he is tricky, he'll raise, which is pretty bad for us. if he has a J he will pay off. A read would be tremendous.... I'd bet since the J is most likely.

I'd bet. Pretty easy fold if you're raised.

Maybe I am too aggressive heads up... I just don't give his flop 3-bet as much value when there are only two people left. It instantly gets more aggressive the minute that happens. Especially when it happens this early.

If you do get 3-bet I definitely think you are behind, but then you have to call. Fold the next street if you don't improve.

Check, because I don't agree with this.
