What would be a suitable bankroll for $1/2 games and $5/1 sng's, but mainly $2/4 games and $10/1 sng's?

50 buy ins for sit n goes ($550 for 10+1.)

500 big bets for limit hold em ($2000 for 2/4)

The general consensus is 300 BB for limit holdem or only $1200 for 2/4. But this assumes you are an expert player and if you have too ask this question I will assume you are only a borderline marginal winner at best so you may need the extra 200 BB "cushion" in case you run bad in the beginning.

I like to have enough bets that if I go down 300 big bets I can say "wow I suck" and STILL have enough left to drop down a level AND STILL HAVE 300 big bets for that level.

But that's just me

If you play 4 tables I would reccomend a 500BB bankroll. 150 bb downswings arent uncommon...

not to be nitpicky, but i don't think you can ever have *too much* money to play your game.

Depends what you are talking about. Can you EVER put more $$ into the bankroll? Define why you need a certain size.

If you think you need 300 Big Bets to play a certain limit then you are a VERY cautious person. The 300 is a myth that was written in a book that was for somebodys LIVING bankroll that they could never put more into. If they lost 300BB they would never play poker again.

Then it depends if you are a winner or a loser. I have played every day for almost 2 years and my worst streak was about 150 Big Bets over a month (and 100BB in on week). Thus, if Y had waited to get 300BB I would have been losing money. Now if you are a poor player you need 1000 Big Bets. LOL There is no REAL answer as everyone is different.

I say in order to PLAY a limit you need 50 Big Bets. After that it's up to you and how you did.

Also - why limit yourself to one limit. I have 4 limits. I'll play 1/2 up to 5/10. Just depends how I feel. If I get smacked around I'll drop down for a day, if I get up I'll move up. There is really hardly any difference in players at least up to 5/10.

The more you have the less chance you have to play with scared money so more is always better bit . . .let's not get anal.

HOWEVER - look at it this way - Standard deviation FOR ME is is about $50 an hour in 2/4 and if I had 24 straight losing hours at losing $50 I would probebly never play the game again because I was too depressed.

Hell - I'm already catching flak for the above post.

Let me make this clear. If you are thinking about going PRO - 300BB is a good number.

If you are thinking about what you need to PLAY in a game all you need is 50.

If you are a casual player and will NEVER drop down to the lower limit again and will never ever put more into the bank if you get a little low, sure, 300BB is a good number, 1000BB is even a better number.

But to be able to play at a certain limit you really don't need that much. If I was forced to put a number on something that really has no answer, how about 150BBs. This would cover fluctuation and if you get low - drop down to a lower limit, NOT to conserve money but to see what the heck is going on with my game.

you see - it all depends on your ability, your fluctuation.

I don't think there are many pros that will agree with this.

Including the NPA himself who states, in the recent Going Pro II article that, "you should have at least three month's expenses in savings plus 500 big bets in bankroll (if you are playing limit poker).".
