Default Party 100 88 hand...action?

30 left, UTG has been pretty aggressive, he just busted a short stack but has otherwise played tight/solid, my image is pretty similiar, this has been my "easiest" mtt so far, been getting solid hands when I needed them, haven't had to make too many difficult decisions (knock on wood it's still going on) anwyway, I have 16k, UTG has 24k (blinds 400/800) and this is the very next hand , he raises to 2k UTG, and I reraise to 5k with 88, he insta-moves in...this is a pretty easy fold yes? At the time, I felt like he was just stealing, but the reraise makes me feel like bigger pair more often than overcards....

I'm not really a tourney player so forgive me if this is a very easy question...

Edit: Also probably not a good idea to just invest 1/3 of my stack here and then fold...yes/no? Does anyone ever just call?

What position are you in, UTG+1? Assuming you're in early position, I don't think you can just call here. To play for set value is very marginal - you just about have the right odds. But you're in early position and often a raise followed by a limp will be greeted with a re-raise from LP. And you don't want to throw 1/8 of your stack into the pot when there is a fair chance you'll have to fold to a re-raise from a 3rd player.

I don't like pushing because that's a pretty big overbet. If you're going to raise, somewhere around 5k seems to be reasonable. I think 88 in EP is a marginal re-raising hand at this stage of a tourney. If you're read is tight/solid then I'd be inclined to throw away 88 to an UTG raise. You're a pretty big dog to his range of hands.

When he re-raises you all-in, you're getting about 2 to 1 odds to call (22,200 in the pot and 11,000 to call). If we narrow his range to TT+, AK you are a 2.2 to 1 dog. If you expand it to include 88+, AQ+ then you are a 1.8 to 1 dog. So, it's pretty close. My inclination would be to fold since you still are in decent shape.

I like your PF raise to defind your hand early, and the cheapest way possible.

If you flat call here and get a favourable flop (that doesn't include an 8) you will have to get a lot of chips in without knowing the strength of your opponents hand.

i personally like to limp with pp under 10's at this stage of a torney, you keep yourself out of trouble and coin flip situiations for your entire stack.

ah didnt see that..with his stack size i think its either a push or fold...

depneding on whats more important winning or moving up. perosnally, i would push however had there not been a raise i would be limping with this hand.
