only problem i see with matusow winning is his recent involvement with the law. (cocaine possession or whatever)

[/ QUOTE ]

Then again, it could result in a bunch of cokehead tilters with weekly coke cash who forget how much they lose!

if he wins, that will be played up, and gambling may once again be seen as a degenerative activity.

it would take a heck of a lot more to stop this poker train/boom/explosion. sure buddy had a few problems in the past, but he certainly deserves an ME win. i'd like to see tiffany final table and either ivey or matusow winning the ME.

back on topic...nobody will ever forget the stories of online qualifiers winning back to back. there will be "pipe dreams" as knish would call em and it's clear matusow is not a degenerate gambler. sure he is a gambler, but he cannot make it as far as he has made it in his career by playing like a donk

How many times did Stu Ungar go broke?

Ouch! No really, The Mouth is no Stu, but there are some similarities if you look for them.

p.s. this is not a contradiction of anybody... just an observation

aye, but in the public eye it's not really talked about..the problems stu ungar had with cheating, drugs, alcohol, etc...you hear about how awesome sauce he was and arguably the best NL player ever to live.

i highly doubt ESPN is going to get into the problems matusow has had in the past. maybe an ABC special will reveal these troubles, but i highly doubt the poker explosion will die down because a former drug addict won the world series of poker.

look at professional sports, steroid use is basically praised and glorified..look boys and girls, juice up and SMASH homerun records! a few ripples were caused, but the ppl still love the game

Matusow is arguably a very very good player, but his emotions tend to let him down. If he can add some zen to his game, he would be top dog.

He is great TV of course, and thats good for poker. Cocaine, hookers, jailtime, strippers, shouting and cursing is great for ratings.

Its like Poker Sopranos.

I sincerely hope he doesn't "Blow up", or that if he does, it's at the final table with a truly balls bluff.

Reminds me of myself he does
