Default Any current poker room employees out there?

Hi guys,
I'm curious to know if there are any current poker dealers and/or poker room shift managers out there? I'm currently an officer in US Navy but looking to resign shortly and would like to get picked up by a casino, preferably the Tunica, MS area. Just trying to find out any info I can to get my foot in the door. Please feel free to send private message.

The best way to get your foot in the door is to go to dealer school. You will learn everything you need to know to start dealing in a short amount of time. Sometimes casinos have dealing schools in the casino that they run when they need dealers (it is really just a month long job interview) or there should be private schools/teachers available, or maybe internet dealing schools (dont know about this).

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm curious to know from anyone with working knowledge or the poker room business, is if there is any way possible for me to step into an assistant shift manager position or shift manager position given my resume without having to become a dealer first?

Probably not. But being a commissioned officer > being a floor. You probably make more money in the Navy than you ever would in a poker room.

Just curious OP, but why would you ever want to be a dealer when, if you are good player, you could probably make WAAAY more just playing poker?

You'd have to have some thiiiick skin being a dealer too, which just doesn't sound like any fun at all for a fairly low paying (i'm just assuming here, does anyone know any different?) job.

Get good at poker, you've already found the forums.

The only numbers I've seen on dealers says they make minimum wage ($6-ish) plus about $9/hr in tips. This was from a player's blog, don't recall which one.

Most naval officer take paycuts when they get out of the service. It's all about the cost of doing something you like/love vs. staying in a semi-decent paying job but working 24/7 in a living hell. Most dealers make about $50,000/yr They get paid minimum wage + tips which is about $30 bucks an hour on tips alone (avg 30 hands an hour). My intention is not to be a dealer (although it would not be to much of a pay cut) but to work my way up to card room manager, which in some casinos is a 6 figure job.

I personally would like to thank you and everyone you work with for putting up with that 24/7 hell to protect the rest of us. Thank you.

And to sort of answer your question, I played at a dallas cardroom once and the dealers there only make tips and i asked one how much he makes and none would say, but some of the regulars estimated he made $200 in one night (assuming they were playing 1-2 NL holdem but then they realized he was dealing 2-5 that night and said it would be a lot more.

You would have to be a complete Dikshit to work for a poker room.

Thanks for the support. I know a lot of people do not agree with our current political situation oversees, but it's nice to know the majority of these same people still support their troops.

David,
Why would I be a %&^@ to want to get into the business?
