Default St00pid n00b question

I've been able to figure out the majority of the acronyms used on the site, but one has me stumped: VPIP. I know it's a statistical analysis term, but I can't figure out which one.

It's actually VP$IP and refers to "Voluntarily put money in the pot", or how often a player plays his cards.

I strongly recommend that you read this:

Voluntarily Put $ In Preflop.

Limping, raising, calling a raise, and completing the small blind all count as voluntarily putting money in preflop. This statistic is different from the percentage of times you see the flop, since you may see the flop for free in the big blind, you may pick up the pot with a raise, and you may limp and then fold to a raise.

VPIP - or VP$IP = Voluntarily Put $ In Pot (nothing to do with drug dealers).

It means that the player put money in the pot pre-flop. This is one of 2 cases:

1. Called or raised pre-flop when not in the BB
2. Called a raise or raised himself when in the BB

So, in an unraised pot pre-flop anyone who enters the hand is considered to have VP$IP except the BB.
In a raised pot the BB also has done so.

The higher this number for a player means the more flops the player is seeing and thus the looser the player is.

Gotcha. Thanks everyone, especially Stephen; I'm perusing the FAQ as we speak. Very helpful.

VPIP means Very Pretty In Pink. It refers to that avatar on Party Poker with the tight hot-pink shirt on all the way to the right. Your VPIP is the amount you win as a function of the amount of time you play using this avatar. Very useful stat for full-time rounders.

A lot of people will claim it has to do with how often you throw money into the pot, but that's an old wives tale.
PS: Don't confuse this with VPICH or VPWNH
The former meaning Very Pretty In Cowboy Hat and the latter meaning Very Pretty With No Hair. A lot of people will say it has to do with how often you throw money into the pot, but that's an old wives tale.
