I don't quite see the reason for your aggression towards me [/ QUOTE ] This is the main reason: [ QUOTE ] Mostly, it just does not let you sleep. [/ QUOTE ] This is false. It does not interfere with sleep. That is what the studies say and that is my direct experience. To the degree I know anything about how these things work, your information looks accurate. I'll take you at your word that you are a physician, but "it does not let you sleep" is an extremely inaccurate characterization of the effects of modafinil. |

Come on Paul, tell us the truth, you're a speed freak who takes bumps of meth in casino bathroom stalls when a tournament is on break.

As for my qualifications to discuss the subject, I am a physician and associate professor of Internal Medicine on the teaching faculty at 2 hospitals. I am double board certified in both internal medicine, as well as hospice and palliative care (of which there are currently only about 2000 physicians nationwide with this certification). I have been named the Teaching Attending of the year twice by the residencies that I teach at. I have had mutiple media apperances (TV, radio, and newspapers) for medical related issues. I have served as an expert witness in court multiple times. In addition to owning my own medical practice, I also serve as the medical director of a large university, overseeing the college health service. I have given multiple lectures specifically on the effects of amphetamines, so forgive me if I feel qualified to discuss the subject. [/ QUOTE ] Jesus, this remind me of the time I mocked the expertise of a guy regarding single malt scotch, only to discover that he was actually quite an authority on the "wisky" subject of his original post... Johnc makes what i think is the key point in this discussion. There is a pre-existing medical condition present that many many people do not understand. In laymans terms, A major symptom of ADD is that the complex in the body that reacts to stimulants and depressants is upside down. With ADD/ADHD, one would get hyper from say, alcohol, which is a depressant, and would relax when taking caffiene, which is obviously a stimulant. This is why stimulants are used.
BTW, I do have ADD and take Ridalin for it. Personally, before I started taking the Ridalin, I could never concentrate on one thing at once; my mind would take a tangent every 15 seconds or so. It took me an average of 2 1/2 hours to go to sleep because my brain wouldn't shut up. I take Ridalin now, and my mind is clear, and I can think of things for more than 15 seconds now, but I almost go to sleep in the daytime when I take it because it relaxes me too much. Having a similar side affect, although not as pronounced, it appears to me that the drug being discussed is being used to counteract a side affect of the ADHD medicine. That is something that shouldn't be marketed by an endorsement. The drug companies already have us by the balls. I don't think that any kind of drug or "vitamin" or anything except websites and clothes should be endorsed by poker players. I think this because there are people out there who will do ANYTHING to get an edge. It's just not responible. |

Mucker, I hope you're more detail oriented in your medical practices.

I'm only halfway through this and I don't think I need to continue. I sure hope you were kidding about being a distinguished physician. I guess if you are, I can understand why there are so mistakes in hospitals these days where people are getting the wrong procedures done to them. It is a shame if you really are a good doctor but communicate so poorly in writing. |
