Default Hey, be nice to the LIVE ONES

Ok, If you out there who happen to be winning players, want to be able to keep winning; you'd better realize something about the economic reality of poker. Those people you call "fish" ( Ed note: ATE cannot believe the STUPIDITY of that site, that advertises "count the fish" how in the hell can anyone be stupid enough, to insult the very same people, who make poker a winning proposition)

Are the same folks FILLING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. Oh boy, am I NOT PLUCKIN" kidding around here. ATE has known many, many live players, who "took a vow" and quit the game. Not all of them, did so because of harassment from "solid" players, but many did.

I just was reading an article in that poker newspaper thing that Caro went over to. Don't feel like getting up, to get the name. Don't matter, the author was just another of the faceless, knowledgeless writers that they have.
Cardplayer magazine, they AINT. Anyway, this clown said that to make money in poker, you must EXPLOIT the 'bad" players.

Ok, first off, all students of ATE know better, than to EVER use the word, "bad" in reference to our wonderful CUSTOMER players out there. Man, some people are just MORONS! It's funny, how some idiot wannabe, can drive off a "bad" player by calling him such, WHEN IN FACT, THE PERSON ONLY PLAYS TO HAVE FUN, AND THEREFOR, IF PLAYING EVERY HAND IS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO TO ACHEIVE SAID FUN, then they are in fact the best player in the world.

Not everyone has the same goals, and you'd better be thankful that they don't.

YOu should NOT try to "exploit" the CUSTOMER players. This can and does result in many of them, leaving the game. GEEEZE, people can be so short-sighted!

The idea, just like lobster fishing, is to HARVEST the customer players, not EXPLOIT them.

Ok, ATE, I'm gonna drop my hatred of you for one momemnt, and keep an open mind.

WHAT THE PLUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.

Well, the point is, to get their money, without being excessivly rude, cruel, or greedy.

Virtuly no one, is aware, that a few bucks here and there, that you let a live player off the hook, is worth thousands of times as much over your lifetime, in . . . .

CUSTOMER RETENTION INSURANCE

Example:

You've been playing 6-12 hold em all night long, with a total GIFT CUSTOMER player (are we starting to learn, how we should be thinking about these players, and what we should call them?!)

You're up 654 dollars, and most of it came from Mr or Ms. live player, who by the way in DOWN almost a thousand. Now, you limp on the button with 98s, and only the two blinds, which include the live one.

by the way, I should mention, that said live one, has not won a freakin' pot, in three hours.

Ok, the flop is 67 2, and live one bets. You call, the other player drops out. The pot is 30 bucks. The turn is a king, and both check. The river is a nine, and you both check. he shows a pair of sevens Remember the pot is only 30 bucks, you can certainly afford to lose that.

Now, if you don't even THINK of just saying "that's good" and letting them have their little tiny pot, after a thousand dollars, YOu are NOT ready for professional poker.

While it's important to be money-oriented, it's also important to NOT be greedy, and to realize that givin' the customers a break here and there,

IS GOOD FOR PLUCKIN' BUSINESS.

Just don't show 'em, that you threw away a better hand, almost no one, wants pity. They just want to win a pot.

There are many other examples, but the point is, when someone is totally live, and the money you are lettin' em off is small, you should give em' a break.

Especially, when the chances are, that they'll give you the money back, anyway.

If they bust out, and ask you for a few bucks for gas, you give it to them. Buy them food and drinks.

This especially applies, in larger games.

Ok, here's the classic CLASSIC example of what can happen, to CHEAP S.O.B.'s

God, how ATE HATES CHEAP S.O.B.S

Ok, Adam has a friend who was making 80 grand a month+

He never bought food, he never paid anyon'es collection.

And, no one wanted to play with him anymore, and the casino where he was banking the games

KICKED HIM OUT, AND GOT SOMEONE ELSE.

A few meals here and there, a LITTLE generousity, and he'd likely still be there.

A little kindness, goes a long way. Not only in customer retention,

but in saving your own soul. It's very easy to just become a totally ruthless SHARK, in poker, and lose your humanity.

Then, you will have lost a lot more, than money.

Now, clearly there are situations where you DO have to be a ruthless shark, but NOT where it's only a few bucks to be nice.

something to think about, from the folks at ATE

You lost me when you alluded to CardPlayer being a high-caliber poker magazine.

Why must you talk in the third person. It's degrading and condescending to those reading. You should stop, it makes me not want to even continue to read your posts which potentially could be well done.

He went to the Lennox Lewis School of Grammar.

I'm about a biscuit away from using plural first person from now on. We think it is a fine idea.

This question, makes no sense. One does NOT make a million a year, and "run bad".

let's have serious, respectful questions only

If you are trying to say it has a big budget, and will continue to be a widely-distributed magazine about poker, then I agree with you. If you think it has great poker advice, then I don't.

P.S. Calling me names and referring to yourself in the 3rd-person makes you seem a lot less bratty.

So you are advocating an open limp on the button with 98s?

Or am I misunderstanding you?
