regarding the overbetting at the 50's. I haven't played there in a while but I used to get in the habbit of making larger than average preflop raises. The reason I did this was to build a pot worth contesting. I figured I had the advantage over my opponents so I wanted to make a pot worth playing for. The bigger the pot the more costly the mistakes my opponents make.

On the flop overbets can be steals. They can also be done with good hands to mix it up, lag play and all that.
